Stuff to share
by Penella22 ([info]penella22)
at November 13th, 2009 (11:10 pm)

So, just a few odds and ends in this post;

I wanted to share a link and a picture of this;

And give a kudos to Deron Meranda for doing this project for his nieces. I think it's really cute.

Also, I wanted to share a link to these people just in case anyone else found them interesting. I know I was psyched to find a site offering support from and for women in technology.

Last but not least, I wanted to share a link to a dvd I watched about a week ago, during a meeting of my college's "Women in Technology" club. It's certainly changed how I see things, and is part of what inspired me to start searching for a community like this one. Glad it did!

Life sucks and then you die. Smarter words were never spoken until someone else said, “No. Life’s a bitch and then you marry one.” Hardee, har har. Har, indeed.

These are a few sketches I did at TiNA during Chris' workshop on creating a cartoon self. Thought I would post them! I thought it, then I did nothing about that for weeks. Then I thought it again and I did it. I did it.

IMMIIIII!
by Rabbit Rabbit ([info]rabbit_rabbit)
at November 11th, 2009 (11:29 pm)

Ohhh yeah, guess who saw Imogen Heap play LIVE?

We were right up front, too. She was all up-close and personal-like! It was AWESOME.

Not that the Bjork show wasn't good, but it was completely different. With Bjork, we just watched the show. With Immi, it was almost like... getting to meet her. It probably helped that she's so chatty and girly and adorable. :D

I don't usually dork this much ("dork" is a verb today), but she's an exception. I doubt I'd be making music at all if I hadn't ever heard of her.

The music was amazing and the night had several highlights, but it's just too much to get into at the moment and I'm tired and you'll "tl;dr" it anyway. Maybe laters.

Anyway, it is bedtime in a biiiig way.

Intro post
by Penella22 ([info]penella22)

Okay, I just have to say, I'm really excited to find this community. After getting really frustrated yesterday doing searches on 'web development' + 'women' or 'computers' + 'women' and finding nothing I created my own community [name removed because I'm not trying to promote it here]. I created it with the idea of making a space for women working in a field where women are a minority. But I gotta say...this is so much better than that. It's nice to find a place where the geek girls have already congregated.

A little about me; I've been enrolled in a Bachelor's degree for web development for the last 4 years (going part-time as a nontraditional student). I love the thrill of programming something and having it *work* and I suffer through the excruciating agony of trying to make it work too. It's all part of programming right? I started out studying web dev being intimidated by the programming side of things and thinking I would probably end up on the picking colors side instead. WRONG!! I should have known from my apathetic wardrobe that colors are not really my thing. And I guess I should have had more faith in my own brainpower because it's served me just fine so far.

As a web dev I struggle a bit with how I see myself because outside of school I am, in some ways, not very geeky. I love studying herbalism, Reiki (which is hands-on healing), and training my horse. When I was younger I played video games on a regular basis, but I've given that up now that most of my free time is spent at the stable.

What has always been true is that I am curious about just about everything, from how to make a car run on rubbing alcohol (yes a friend and I tried that once) to how to shape a cardboard boat to stay afloat as long as possible. So yeah, I guess that qualifies me as a geek huh?

Anyhow, this community looks like a lot of *fun*!!!

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to say hello to this community :) I am definitely a girl geek. I have been playing DnD since high school , started with 2.5 (Remember THAC0?) and I'm not too happy with 4E but I manage. I also am a DM on a Neverwinter Nights online server that is based in the Dragonlance setting. I love DL. (I'm working on a poetry cycle for all the gods- yea that's 21 of them.) I tend to prefer either puzzle games or rpgs. (An occasional good fighting game, such as Bleach: Dark Souls for the DS works quite well to take out aggressions however.) I love to read fantasy/sci fi and I am fan of yaoi/yuri and Japanese anime. I have a MAC (non intel) so I'm not too into PC gaming at this point, unless it's for MAC but maybe if I have enough money to get a new computer I'll look into it.

That's all I can really think of, oh yes. I like to wear cloaks.

ideas?
by pepperoni86 ([info]pepperoni86)
at November 7th, 2009 (01:50 am)

hey, is there many DnD players on here? or even just anyone with some ideas? I'm running a session of my campaign (based off 3.5 rules with my own world) this week as the alternate DM isnt feeling well and we switched weeks, and I need a one off adventure.... I was supposed to prepare something but ive had a really busy week and the weekend has rolled around without me realising lol. I've got a cleric, swashbucker, sorceror and a rogue, all lvl 4, and my lvl 2 druid who backs up when our cleric isnt available to play (But I avoid using her as much as possible because I have having a character as DM) . The basic story is that they are a group who work for the council of a port town, running diplomatic errands, escorting merchants, clearing out bandits, that sort of thing. sort of odd-job mercenaries lol. last session they took down a sea witch coven that had been hasseling ships. the week before they escorted a shipwrecked noble lady home (chased by bandits, of course)

I'm out of time and ideas for this week. theres some political intrigues going on behind everything but its not ready to bubble to the surface ye, so ideas? just something easy to plan in half a day :D.

also, if theres any console gamers floating around here, how freakin awesome is Borderlands??? So happy *its love*

I think I just wanted to draw sharks.  Cause they are messed up, dude.

Another animal I like is cats!  I have two.  One named Louis and one named Buster, they are both girls.  I know of an awesome cat named Paisley that has a website and livejournal.  She does an auto-bio diary strip.  It’s fantastic.

Prints?
by Becca ([info]kinokofry)
at November 5th, 2009 (03:12 am)

I may FINALLY be able to make and sell some nice prints!

I'm considering which comics/illustrations to make prints of, and I'd like your input if you have any to give.

I could probably only afford to do one or two different ones. Which of these would you buy? One of them? All of them? None of them? (Click for a larger view)

Let's call them:

#1 #2
#3 #4

Thanks, guys!

There's no guarantee I'll do any of these, or I might modify them in some way. Just feeling things out for the time being.

Alexander Ryback's Tragedy
by Becca ([info]kinokofry)
at November 4th, 2009 (02:52 am)

I probably haven't mentioned this before, but I used to work in the office of Alexander Ryback. That's right, Eurovision 2009 winner.

Those are not easy things for me to recall. But Alexander Ryback's story deserves to be told. And it is really only done justice with leaping woodsmen.
